NORINE FAY NELSON
85, of Vassar, died following a lengthy illness Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in Autumnwood of Deckerville. She was born December 31, 1935 at home in Caro to Carl A. and Margaret E. (Cramer) Putnam. She married Basil Forest Lloyd Nelson Jr. November 26, 1953 in Caro. He died September 2, 1992.

Norine graduated from Caro High School in 1953. She worked as a bartender and waitress for the Kingston Tavern, Blumfield Inn and Kingswood Outfield Bar and Grill. Norine was employed as a caregiver for Allen Health Care. In her younger years, she served as a lifeguard for children in Caro and delivered newspapers for the Bay City Times. Norine was skilled at crocheting afghans and quilting. She enjoyed going to flea markets, harness horse races and loved roller skating. Norine was known as an avid reader. She was a loving sister, mother and grandmother.

Norine is survived her children: Anne Nelson (Ray Crittenden) of Vassar; Arlene (Timothy) Witkop of Byron; Amy Filipek of Kingston; Allan (Dawna) Nelson of Vassar; Arnold (Sue) Nelson of Vassar; Adam Nelson of Aurora, CO; daughter-in-law, Mary Dixon Rife; twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren; siblings: John C. (Joanne) Putnam of Vassar; Louis W. (Katie) Putnam of Doylestown, PA; twins Nina K. Roudebush of Kiowa, CO; Nancy M. Moore of Gaylord; Carl Albert Putnam Jr. of Byron; twins Zeph J. (Brenda) Putnam of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Zoa R. (Tom) May of Midland; sister-in-law, Sue Putnam of Murrieta, CA; best friend, Donna Green. She is preceded in death by her husband; sons: Aaron Nelson; Anthony (Vicky) Nelson; brother, Abe E. Putnam; nephews: Mike Putnam, Mitch Moore; great granddaughter, baby Vicky Lynn Ray; brother-in-law, Les Roudebush.

Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston with Rev. Darwin Highlen of Holiness Missionary Church officiating. Memorials may be made to the Mayville Area Share Shop. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Autumnwood.
