NANCY CATHERINE HUTCHINSON

Nancy C. Hutchinson, 80, of Cass City, died unexpectedly Monday, January 8, 2024 in Hills and Dales Hospital, Cass City.  She was born September 21, 1943 in Cass City to Hazen and Margaret (McQueen) Brown.  She married Dean Hutchinson July 27, 1963 in Cass City.

Nancy graduated with honors from Cass City High School at age sixteen and was teaching classes in Greenleaf Country School by age eighteen.  She attended college at Central Michigan University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree.  Nancy and her mother graduated together from CMU in 1965.  She was employed as an elementary teacher for Cass City schools for thirty-four years.  Nancy taught many fourth, fifth, and sixth graders throughout those years.  She also taught Sunday School in the Cass City United Methodist Church.  Nancy was a brilliant painter of porcelain china, oil paintings, and watercolors.  She shared the opportunity to paint with some renowned artists.  Nancy was an avid reader, an amazing speller, and enjoyed crossword puzzles.  She was always teaching someone something, whether at work or in her private life.  

Nancy is survived by her husband of sixty years and the love of her life, Dean; daughter, Deanna Merchant (Paul Thompson) of Cass City; grandsons:  Kevin Merchant of Gagetown, James Merchant of Hazel Park, Hoyt Merchant of Dover, DE; great grandchildren:  Brayden, Owen, Brynn; sisters:  Rev. Marilyn Brown, Rev. Louise Wright.  Her very special caregivers:  Dora Hale, Patience Wolschleger, Laurie Miller.  She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott Hutchison. 

 Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with her sister, Rev. Louise Wright officiating.  Interment in Elkland Township Cemetery in the spring. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church or Rawson Memorial Library.
