CHESTER VERNIE MUNTZ
Chester V. Muntz, 88, of Cass City, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. He was born September 23, 1917 at home just North of Cass City to John and Martha (McCullough) Muntz. He married Bessie A. Craig May 25, 1940 in her parents home in Elkton.
Chet served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a postal clerk on a troop transport ship. He worked for the U.S. Post Office in Cass City for 38 years retiring in 1980. While at the post office he worked as a clerk for ten years, Postmaster for four years and rural route carrier for 24 years. Chet was a member, Deacon and Trustee of Cass City First Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Cass City Lions Club, a charter member of the original VFW Post serving as Treasurer and Commander and he was a life member of the Masonic Order Tyler Lodge #317 since 1943; serving as Past Master and was once Mason of the Year. Chet enjoyed golfing and was a member of Rolling Hills Golf Club. He enjoyed woodworking, making cedar chests for daughters and grandchildren, furniture and sewing chests.
Chet is survived by his wife, Bessie; daughters: Connie Ann (Jerry) Vandemark of Deford, Judith Carolyn Knoph of Gladwin: grandchildren: Brian (Kaylene) Vandemark, Annette Sue (Bryan) Toner, Jodi Knoph, Jackie (Rob) Thomas; great grandchildren: Bridgett, Brenda, and Andrew Vandemark, Justin and Chantell Toner, Robert and Audrey Thomas; great great granddaughter, Trinity Middaugh; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sisters: Margaret Kilpatrick, Helen McGrath; brother, Willard Muntz.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2006 in Cass City First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Blackburn officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cass City First Presbyterian Church Window Fund or Rawson Memorial Library. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644.
