Michael Stanley Grifka, Jr.

MICHAEL STANLEY GRIFKA, JR.

     Michael S. Grifka, 83, of Ubly, passed away May 6, 2024 in the home where he was born.   He was born March 8, 1941 to Michael and Agnus (Pionk) Grifka.  Mike had many accomplishments in his life, the one he was most proud of was marrying his lovely wife, Helen Moody.  

      Mike worked as a farmer his entire life.  He served as a soldier in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964.  During his time in the military, Mike was stationed in Korea and Germany.  He was also the founder and president of the Thumb Softball League. Mike was also the founder and coordinator of the Grifka Open for several years.  He enjoyed listening to polka music, and in his youth, traveling to polka dances. 

      Mike is survived by his wife Helen; his children Steve (Michelle) Grifka, Scott (Patsy) Grifka, Amy (John) Tenbusch; grandchildren:  Bradley Grifka, Jacob Grifka, Megan Grifka; Josh Susalla, Jeremey Susalla, Jenny (Tim) Laske, Judy (Brandon) Morden; Julia Tenbusch, John Tenbusch, Kaitlyn Tenbusch; fifteen great-grandchildren; siblings and in-laws:  Hank Grifka, Stasha Fisher, William Grifka, Linda (Robert) Tate, Lloyd Moody, Harold Morgan, Jack Moody, Robert Moody.  He is preceded in death by several siblings and in-laws: Ervin Grifka, Robert (Lillian) Krug, Bertha Grifka, Marvin Fisher, Jerry (Marie) Grifka, Robert (Bernadene) Jansen, Sandra Grifka, Lawrence (Gloria) Shelke, Bernell (Marjorie) Moody, Nancy Moody, Nelda Moody, Loretta Moody, Mary Morgan, Marvin (Bertha) Anglebrandt. 

     Mike’s request was that his family and friends gather for a celebration of life to be held

  5:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at his home (7701 S. Ubly Road, Ubly, Michigan 48475).
