Helen Nora Mellendorf, 81, of Cass City died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 peacefully in her home. She was born October 10, 1934 in Greenleaf Township to Elliott Glenn and Jennie Marie (Crawford) Churchill. She married Wayne Hall Mellendorf on May 31, 1952 in Elkton.
Helen enjoyed quilting, crocheting and cooking. She attended a ceramic class and made lamps for all of her children. Helen was fond of reading books about Amish stories. She made the best oatmeal cookies and lemon meringue pies for her boys. Helen truly went above and beyond in loving and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Wayne; sons: Jeff (Beth) Mellendorf of Caro, Scott (Mary) Mellendorf of Cass City; grandchildren: Emily (Chris) Butterfield, David (Tosha) Mellendorf; great grandsons: Ryan Mellendorf, Matthew Mellendorf, Brady Mellendorf, and baby Butterfield due in September; sisters: Marion Hunter of Mayville, Margaret Springstead of Pigeon, Amy (Bill) Ford of Cass City, Yvonne (Ron) Miller of Elkton, Jacqueline Osborne of Shelby Township; brother, Glenn (Nancy) Churchill, Jr. of Cass City; brother in law, Gerald Babcock of Caro; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Virginia (Amasa) Anthes, Wattie (Orville) Mallory, Marie (Jim) Brown, Glendora Babcock, Clarence "Skip" (Bobbi) Churchill, John Churchill, Phyllis Churchill.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Louise Wright of First Spiritual Church of Bay City officiating.
