JEANNE MARY MCPHAIL,
74, of Cass City, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 in her home with her family by her side. She was born March 12, 1939 in Attica to James and Nora (Middleditch) Sutphen. She married Roger Dee McPhail November 7, 1970 in Bad Axe.
Jeanne worked as an Assistant Plant Manager for Novelty Tool in Bad Axe for nearly ten years. She then began her own business, Dovetail Upholstery, retiring after 20 years. Jeanne was a very talented craftsman. Cross-stitch, needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting were but a few of her many hobbies. She also spun her own yarn to use in her creations. Jeanne raised beautiful orchids. Her green thumb was also evident in the lemon tree that she nurtured from a seed her father gave her over 50 years ago. She was currently attending the Gagetown United Methodist Church and at one time attended the Ellington Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the Cass City Knitting Club and an area crafting club. Jeanne was an enthusiastic U of M fan. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Roger; children: Lynne (Randy) Wale of Midland, Karen (Jon) Hunt-Waldorf of Gagetown, Kevin (Kellie) McPhail of Bellaire, Glenda (Mark) Montesi of Eldersberg, MD, Darren McPhail of Bad Axe; mother, Nora Sutphen-Ryckman of Caro; grandchildren: Kelly (Enrique) Castillo, Owen Mohr, John (Kristi) Richmond, Theresa (Paul) Koeppen, Hope Hunt Engelhardt, Warren Hunt, Kristen (Corey) Russel, Keegan McPhail, Trinity McPhail; great grandchildren: Enrique, Matthew, Alexander, Sarah, Lilli, Josh, Charles, Benjamin, Nikolas, Emaleigh, Clayton, Joel, Kelsey, Avery, Aeden, Montanna, Reed; siblings: James (Narie) Sutphen of Fostoria, Joanne Nicholas of Cass City, Joyce (Fred) Balk of Freeland, MD, John Sutphen of Caro; sisters-in-law: Margaret (Ray) Miller of Arnold, MD, Roberta Clark of Filion; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friend, Mary Gedro and her Sheltie companion, Kodi. Jeanne is preceded in death by her father; infant son, Shawn; brother-in-law, Eldon Clark; and mother-in-law, Herlanda McPhail.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Gagetown United Methodist Church in Gagetown with Rev. Cynthia Parsons officiating.
