Helen Mckinley

Helen F. McKinley, 97, of Caro, died Monday, January 13, 2003 in Caro Community Hospital. She was born July 27, 1905 in Millington to William and Ada (Akley) Reed. She married Floyd H. Karr September 29, 1924. He died November 29, 1937. She then married William McKinley July 1, 1942. He died April 18, 1985.

Helen worked a variety of jobs including at the laundry and picking beans in season. She was a Blue Star and Gold Star mother in World War II. Helen was the oldest living member of the Cass City United Methodist Church. Helen enjoyed refinishing furniture, china painting and going to garage sales.

Helen is survived by her children: Aletha Misch of Cass City, Ellis Karr and his special friend, Ruth Freeman, of Caro, Dean and Doris Karr of Caro; grandchildren: Richard (Kathleen) Tait of Belleville, Larry Tait of DeWitt, Rosemary (George) Bushong of Cass City, Alan Karr of Traverse City, Sharon (Jim) LaPratt of Caro, Debra (Jon) Link of Unionville, Kim (Melanie) Karr of Grand Rapids, Joyce Ann (John) Schwartz of Deford, Patricia (Duane) Dietz of Hiram, GA, Ronald Karr of Deford; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; her sister, Jannetta Conway of Ithaca, is the oldest and last surviving sibling at 105; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by an infant son and her son, Robert Reed, who died during the Korean War; great great granddaughter, Tiffany Danielle Karr; brothers: Harold Reed and Carl Reed; sister, Vera Reed.

Funeral services held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at Cass City United Methodist Church, with Rev. George Ward officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church. Pallbearers for Mrs. McKinley: Scott Karr, Larry Tait, John Schwartz, Alan Karr, Kim Karr and George Bushong.

Visitation: 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2003
