Rev. Richard Wesley McCool, 59, of Newberry, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
He was born January 20, 1948 in Cass City, the son of Elizabeth (Hubbard) McCool and the late E.J. McCool.
Richard was a 1965 graduate of Kingston High School. He received his Bachelor's degree at Olivet Nazarene College, graduating in 1977. He received his Master's degree from the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City and also had advanced chaplain training at St. Lutheran's Hospital in Kansas City. He became an ordained minister at the Church of the Nazarene in Flint. Rev. McCool was the Associate Pastor of the Caro Church of the Nazarene until 1982 and then became the Chaplain at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw for 16 1/2 years. Due to ill health he has not been able to work for the past 10 years.
Surviving are his mother, Elizabeth McCool-Calhoon, of Newberry; one brother and sister-in-law, Douglas J. (Delain)McCool, of Newberry; niece, Michelle (Al) Neff, of Saginaw; nephews, Scott (Kristy) McCool, of Kingston; Jason (Melanie)McCool, of Marysville, OH; sister-in-law, Emily K. McCool, Saginaw; great step niece, Emily Neff, of Saginaw; great step nephew, Steven Neff; and great nephew Ethan McCool; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service will take place at 11 am Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the Caro Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Steven Anthony, District Superintendent, Rev. Paul McNett and Rev. Randy Owen officiating with burial in the Kingston Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Saginaw Valley Church of the Nazarene on Tittabawassee Rd. in Saginaw Twp. From 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Monday, at the Caro Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm and Wednesday at the church from 10 am until the time of service at 11.
