ELIZABETH LOUISE McCOOL-CALHOON,
84, of Saginaw, formerly of Kingston, died following a short illness Saturday, September 17, 2011 in her home in Saginaw with her family by her side. She was born April 29, 1927 in the parsonage in Pickford, MI to Rev. Walter Scott and Flora Priscilla (Endersbe) Hubbard. She married E.J. McCool May 11, 1945 in Kingston. He died February 24, 1990 after 45 years together. She married Rollin "Cal" Calhoon September 26, 1995. He died November 25, 1996 after 14 wonderful months.
Elizabeth lived in the Kingston area since she was 15 years old. Elizabeth was a longtime faithful member of Caro Church of the Nazarene. For many years Elizabeth was a representative for Stanley Home Products as one of their top sales persons. After her son Richard was injured Elizabeth dedicated herself to his care and soon became an active advocate for people in similar situations. She traveled many places to speak offering inspiration, education and spiritual comfort. Over the years Elizabeth was a great comfort for many people visiting them at home or in the hospital. She enjoyed keeping in contact with friends and family, sometimes by email, phone or the large stacks of outgoing mail she sent daily. She put in many hours as a volunteer at Positive Alternatives in Caro. Elizabeth was an avid sports fan. She especially enjoyed football and all the Detroit teams including the Lions, Tigers and Pistons. Elizabeth's greatest blessings were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Douglas Jay McCool of Newberry; grandchildren: Michelle (Al) McCool-Neff of Saginaw, Scott McCool of Kingston, Jason (Melanie) McCool of Marysville, OH; daughter-in-law, Emily McCool; great grandchildren: Ethan Scott McCool, Emily Neff, and James Neff; sisters: Edna (Raymond) Moore of Kingston; Geneva (Joe) McIntyre of Bakersville, CA; brother, Wesley (Roxie) Hubbard of Portage; sister-in-law, Pauline Hubbard of Sacramento, CA; step-children: Carl (Dale) Calhoon of Shallotte, NC, Bob (Pam) Calhoon of Butler, PA, Tim (Carol) Calhoon of Flint; step-son-in-law, Bill Jeffrey; many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends. She is preceded in death by her son, Chaplain Richard Wesley McCool, brother, Rev. Walter Hubbard; step-daughter, Joan Jeffrey.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in Caro Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Fred Prince officiating. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston.
