JAMES A. MAYFIELD
James A. Mayfield, 82, of Decker, died Sunday, June 24, 2018 in Medilodge of Cass City following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born September 14, 1935 in Murray, KY to James and Mabel (Young) Mayfield. He married Beverly Ann Wallace September 27, 1968 in Toledo, OH. She died August 29, 2016.
Jim graduated from Cass Tech High School in Wayne County. He retired from Detroit Edison after 49 years as a meter reader and later as a supervisor. Jim enjoyed traveling, especially to Kentucky to visit relatives. He was fond of eating burgers at the Cass Tavern and Nick’s Restaurant where he ordered them with onions and chili. Jim loved to read western books and watch the old westerns on television. Gunsmoke and Bonanza were some of his favorite shows.
James is survived by his children: Karen McAllister of Rockland; Cynthia (James) Kelly of Redford; John (Cheryl) Mayfield of Westland; Richard (Donna) Hover of Hartland, Brian Hover of Inkster; grandchildren: Ashleigh (Chris) Kitchens of Huntersville, NC; Bryan Hover of Inkster; Jennifer (Michael) Lennon of Rockland; Kristina (Gary) Poirier of Rockland; J.P. Kelly of Redford; Colon Kelly of Redford; six great grandchildren; brother, Mike (Liz) Mayfield of Plymouth; sister, Debbie (Scott) Riley of Fayetteville, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jamie Mayfield; brother, Jerry Mayfield.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Mayfield will be his grandchildren. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
