LYNNEA R. MATTHEWS

Lynnea R. Matthews, age 72, of Caseville, left our world on August 30, 2024 peacefully and comfortably with her family at her side. Lynnea was born February 3, 1952 to Lee and Shirley (McCaslin) Rabideau.

Lynnea graduated from Cass City High School in 1970. She attended Alma College and earned a degree in social work. Lynnea was employed by the Huron County Department of Social Services, working in child protection and the foster care system for twenty-one years. During those years, she touched many lives. Lynnea married the love of her life, Daniel Matthews, on May 3, 1996 and learned the art of sorting and processing pickles at Dan’s family’s processing plant. She was also instrumental in the company’s bookkeeping. They lived on the family farm until Dan’s death on January 28, 2010.

In Lynnea’s retirement years, she bought an estate property in Caseville which she remodeled into a beautiful, lakeside home with room for family and friends to visit. She also renovated the adjoining house on the property to a welcoming mid-century, modern vacation rental complete with a leopard lounge.

A yoga group was formed and Lynnea offered her lush yard and lakeview for the outside yoga sessions during the warmer weather, three days a week. She joined the Thumb EZ Riders Bicycle Club, holding the title of Ride Coordinator and Past President. She rode with the club for twelve years and thoroughly enjoyed their twenty-to-thirty-mile weekly rides, European river cruise, and many Northern Michigan rides. Lynnea rode with them until the end of July. When she and her friends weren’t doing yoga or bike riding, they kayaked enjoying the sunrise or sunset paddles to Turnip Rock, the Florida Mangroves and beyond. When cold weather arrived in Michigan, Lynnea traveled to her home in Americana Cove, St. Petersburgh, Florida. Yoga changed to water aerobics and she rode her bike almost every day.

Lynnea was a force to be reckoned with and a joy to spend time with. She was our family historian, a great hostess, and a champion for the underdog. Lynnea was more than special to everyone that knew her. Here’s to your next great adventure, Lynnea!

Left to continue are her sisters: Karen Gracey, Mary Ann ( Gracey) Stanley; brother, Richard Gracey; nieces and nephews: Dawn (Steve) Strachan, Troy (Anne) Parsell, Lian (Roger) Parsell, William (Donna) Stanley, Jr., Corey (Nicole) Stanley, Shane (Laura) Stanley, Marika Stanley Garcia, Megan Gracey, Robert Lee (Donna) Gracey, Christina (Patrick) Delany, Michael (Marissa) Toth, Zsuzsanna (Mike) Mahon, Renee (Jeff) Wells, Andre Z.
