Henry J. Lis, 88, of Cass City, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born September 26, 1914 in Wies Budy Glogocoskie, Poland to Antoni and Waktorya (Pezybylo) Lis. He married Pearl McWilliams July 22, 1953 in Angola, IN. She died April 23, 1997.
Henry went into the service in 1939 serving in the Polish Army. He was captured by Germans and was a Prisoner of War Concentration Camp for 5 years. In 1944 he escaped to France going then to Italy, then England. He moved to the United States in 1951. He became a US citizen in 1953. Henry was a tool and die maker for many years. He was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church, serving as the church janitor for 13 years. Henry was a member of Cass City/Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council #8892.
Henry is survived by his children: James (Alva) McWilliams of Los Angeles, CA, Robert (Doris) McWilliams of Macomb; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and one on the way; brother: Jacob Lis of Poland, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers: Ted, Karl, and John Lis.
Funeral services held 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 29, 2002 at St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Steve Fillion officiating. Interment is in St. Michael Cemetery, Wilmot. Memorials may be made to St. Pancratius Catholic Church.
Visitation: 2 to 5 & 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday
Vigil Service 4 p.m. Wednesday
