ESTELA PENA LEYVA
Estela P. Leyva, 87, of Gagetown, died Sunday, September 14, 2008 in Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus, Saginaw . She was born February 13, 1921 in San Antonio, TX to Gillermo and Guadalupe (Leal) Peña. She married Joseph D. Leyva April 25, 1938 in San Antonio. He died February 17, 1983.
Estela worked for General Cable for 20 years until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church, St. Agatha Altar Society, Extension Club, Guadalupe Society, Gagetown Seniors, and S.O.A.R. Retirees through General Cable. Estela enjoyed sewing, crocheting and had a wonderful doll collection, many of which are dressed in dresses that Estela or her mother made.
Estela is survived by her children: Rosie (Sonny) Quinn of Cass City, Rachel (Jerry) Lamoureux of Decker, Joseph (Judy) Leyva of Mayville, William Leyva of Brentwood, CA, Paul (Beverly) Leyva of Gagetown, Claude (Dawn Miller) Leyva of Caro; grandchildren: Robin (Ron) Brooks, Jerry Quinn, Rosie (Steve) Peterson, Rachel Robinson, Tiffany Leyva, Jody Leyva; great grandchildren: Michala, Jake, Morgan, Jenna, Christian, Britney, Stephen, Brandon, Ashley, David and Brooke; sisters: Leila Martinez of Pontiac, Genevieve Rodriguez of Cass City, Alice (Joe) Lopez of Saginaw, Amelia Bryan of Saginaw; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Viretta Peña of Cass City; daughter-in-law, Carmen (Larry) Wagoner of NC. She is preceded in death by her son, Ralph Leyva in 1971; daughter-in-law, Linda Leyva; brothers: Robert Peña, William Peña, and Ernest Peña.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2008 in St. Agatha Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen J. Fillion and Sr. Dorothy Ann Blasko officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Agatha Catholic Church or St. Agatha Ladies Altar Society. Interment will be in St. Agatha Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Leyva are: Jerry Quinn, Jake Quinn, Ron Brooks, Chad Buniack, Bob McCreedy, Paul Lopez and Bob Torres.
