Leon William Kaniszewski

 LEON WILLIAM KANISZEWSKI 

Leon W. Kaniszewski, 72, of Caro, died Sunday, March 17, 2024 in University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor.  He was born January 31, 1952 in Saginaw to Walter and Frances (Yorks) Kaniszewski.  He married Catherine Ann Fox on July 10, 1976 in Waupaca, WI.  

Leon was a Saginaw Touch Football Traveling League Hall of Famer.  He graduated from the University of Oshkosh, Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in public education. While there, he played on the U of O basketball team.  Leon was employed by Akron Fairgrove High School as a teacher, later he taught fifth grade and was a kindergarten through sixth grade gym teacher for many years with the Kingston School District.  Leon coached Kingston Girls Varsity Softball and seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball.  He enjoyed a good game of Euchre and playing golf.  Leon was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He was very active in his grandchildren’s lives, attending their sporting events, and teaching his grandson to play golf. 

            Leon is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Catherine; son, Leon (Fibronia) Kaniszewski Jr. of Deford; daughter, Jesse (Brian) Armstrong of Ortonville; six grandchildren:  Travis, Tristan, Alana, Cole, Rilen, Saylir; sister, Sally (Donald) Doran of North Branch; brothers:  Walter (Maria) Kaniszewski of AuGres, Joe (Kathi) Kaniszewski of Midland; brothers in law:  James Maurer, Les Olson; several aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, relative and friends.   He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Lydia Maurer, Eleinor Olson.      

Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 in St. Christopher Parish, Caro with Fr. Christopher Coman officiating.   Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.    

Visitation:   5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17 2024 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City

                               10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 in St. Christopher Parish, Caro
