HARRY ALBERT LENDA,
82, of Owendale, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 11, 2010 in Hills & Dales General Hospital, Cass City. He was born November 20, 1927 at home in Huron County to Walter and Cecilia (Stopynski) Lenda. He married Mabel Mary McIlhargie June 9, 1956 in St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog.
Harry served in the US Army during World War II. He worked for A & P Grocery store in Pigeon and then as a relief manager before buying the IGA in Cass City. Harry owned and operated the IGA Grocery Store in Cass City for over 40 years until his retirement. Harry was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown where he served as a lector, Council Member and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Cass City/Gagetown Knights of Columbus #8892 and a former member of the Cass City Chamber of Commerce. Harry was pitcher on his blooper softball team and a former little league coach. He enjoyed golfing, pheasant and deer hunting, working in his yard and garden, and watching Detroit Tiger baseball.
Harry is survived by his wife, Mabel; children: Gregory (Cathy) Lenda of Millington, Deborah (Kevin) Israelson of Cass City; grandchildren: Brett Lenda, Matt Lenda, Joe Lenda, Chelsea Israelson, Cole Israelson; siblings: Ann Lenda of Caro, Welda (Darl) Gilbert of Warren, Bernard Lenda of Caro, Irene Krug of Bad Axe. He is preceded in death by his infant daughter; siblings: Edmond Lenda, Josephine Schwartz, George Lenda, Genevieve Schwartz, Peter Lenda, John Lenda and infant twin sisters.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 in St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown with Rev. Donald Eppenbrock and Sr. Dorothy Ann Blasko officiating. Interment will be in St. Agatha Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Agatha Catholic Church. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
