Donald Cornelius Lapeer

August 19, 1937 — April 3, 2023

DONALD CORNELIUS LaPEER,
85, passed peacefully April 3, 2023 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. Don was born August 19, 1937 in Detroit to Cornelius and Frances LaPeer. Don worked in the construction field before joining the Army on February 6, 1959. In 1960, he completed his GED while enlisted. He was twenty-two years old when he graduated from paratroopers jump school in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky with a total of twenty-two jumps. On May 4, 1963 he married Carol Ann Wolfrum and they welcomed their daughter Carol Elizabeth LaPeer on November 18, 1963. Don was honorably discharged on April 30, 1965.

Don continued to work in the construction field for 20 years and later fell in love with Rose Ann Wolfrum. Rose Ann was a devout Catholic, so Don was baptized on July 25, 1981 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Wilmot. On September 4, 1981 Don and Rose Ann were married. Don gained three stepchildren: David, Karen, and Genevieve. Don and Rose Ann resided in the Deford area, where Don enjoyed homesteading. He loved gardening, processing food, and he was good at fixing just about anything. He enjoyed turning junk into treasure and had quite a collection. Together, he and Rose Ann also had fun making and selling pewter jewelry and figurines. They traveled to Renaissance fairs and would dress up in the style of clothing from that time period. They attended church most every Sunday, and he grew more deeply into his faith over the years.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol E. LaPeer; stepchildren: David Wolfrum, Karen (Donald) Trzemzalski, Genevieve Wolfrum; grandchildren Anna (Brent) VanAcker, Elizabeth (Larry) Paquette, Kimberly (Clint) Keilitz, Sara (Rob) Treso, Collin Lau; six great grandchildren; his sister, Connie (Delbert) Barkley; brother, Bill (Susan) LaPeer; nine nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose Ann LaPeer; former wife, Carol A. LaPeer; sisters: Dorothy, Joyce; and a niece and nephew.
