JOHN ANDREW KOPKO,
83, of Kingston, died following a lengthy illness Thursday, July 9, 2020 in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center, Marlette. He was born November 18, 1936 in Detroit to Michael and Maria Kopko. He married Ruth Irene Curtis October 25, 1958 in St. Michael Catholic Church, Wilmot.
John was a graduate of Kingston High School and went to work for Marlette Trailer Factory. He later worked the assembly line for General Motors Flint Truck and Bus for many years until retiring. John earned the highest and most prestigious rank of Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #3224 of Caro. John was a talented wood worker and enjoyed tinkering in his basement. He always maintained a wonderful vegetable garden. Playing golf was one of John’s favorite pastimes; he also loved the challenge of a good Euchre or Cribbage game. In earlier years, he and Ruth could be found on the dance floor square dancing. Later in life, they discovered the joy of vacationing in beautiful Punta Gorda, Florida.
John is survived by his loving wife Ruth; their children: Jean (Steve) Brinkman of Caro; John (Sharon) Kopko of Braunsfel, TX; Ann (Bill) Herron of Kingston; Matthew (Emily) Kopko of Grand Haven; grandchildren: Joshua (Val) Lester, Ben Lester, Edward (Kara) Herron, Erica (Cody) Irvine, Sarah (Max) Kopko, Corey (Jaime) Remillard, Alex (Audrey) Roetman, Emma Rose Korstanje, Gabriel Kopko, Nicholas Kopko, Gregory Kopko; great grandchildren: Kierstin Lester, Nova Herron, Charlotte Remillard, Jay Lester, Christian Remillard, Everlee Herron; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by four brothers: Frank Kopko, George Kopko, Joe Kopko, Michael (Barb) Kopko; two sisters: Agnes (L.J.) Brynes, Mary (Dick) Marker.
Funeral service held 12 p.m. Monday July 13, 2020 in St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Caro with Rev. Christopher Coman officiating. Due to current health concerns, facial covering and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wilmot. Memorials may be made to United Hospice of Marlette or Knights of Columbus Council #3224 of Caro, Coats for Kids Program.
