MARY H. KNECHT,
79, of Caro, formerly of Grayling, died Thursday, January 21, 2010 in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. She was born July 6, 1930 in Detroit to James Elbert and Agnes Irene (Rowland) Merritt. She married Charles H. Knecht February 16, 1974 in Grayling. He died September 27, 1990.

Mary graduated from Nazareth High School. She attended Kirtland Community College studying History and also worked as a History tutor. Mary worked as a waitress and bartender.

Mary is survived by her sons: Walter G. “Gerry” Horn of Owensboro, KY, Stephen D. (Linda) Horn of Sterling Heights, Jeffrey M. Horn of Owensboro, KY; 10 grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, Thomas Merritt of Bowling Green, KY. She is preceded in death by her 5 year old brother, Bobby Merritt and her parents.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date at her graveside in Arlington National Cemetery with U.S. Army Chaplain officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth St., NW, Washington DC 20006-3517.
