JOHN MELVIN KLEIN
John M. Klein, 81, of Kingston, died Sunday, January 25, 2009 in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center. He was born May 20, 1927 at home in Detroit to John and Anna (Wisnieski) Klein. He married Julia Martha Schultz January 18, 1947 in St. Bernard Catholic Church in Detroit.
John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a former member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and Holy Name Catholic Church and a member of their men’s group. John worked as a painter for the City of Detroit until his retirement in 1981 after 32 years of employment. He painted many buildings in Detroit, lastly working in Cobo Hall. Upon his retirement, John and Julia moved to Kingston. They became members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Deford quickly becoming involved by painting the church inside and out. John was a member of the Cass City/Gagetown Knights of Columbus #8892 and the Cass City VFW Post #3644. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, yardwork and playing cards with his friends each week.
John is survived by his wife, Julia; children: Tom (Gail) Klein of Rochester Hills, Linda (Mike) Munson of Oscoda, Jim (Sandy) Klein of Warren; grandchildren: Jennifer (Darren) Rizzoli, Veronica (Jeff) Wilson, Jeff (Shanna) Klein, Becky Klein, Brian Pittman, Kevin Pittman, Steven Pittman, Jammie (Chad) Toner and Ed Klein; 4 great grandchildren: Adam, Brianna, Melia and Ronen; brother, Ronald (Eunice) Klein of Mt. Clemens; sister, Mary Ann Gubler of Warren; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Davis of Clinton Township; mother-in-law, Ida Schultz of Clinton Township. He is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Donald Klein; infant daughter, Barbara Ann Klein; brother, Kenneth Klein; infant sister, Henrietta Klein.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. Andrzej Boroch and Sr. Riccardina Silvestri officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Klein will be Brian Pittman, Kevin Pittman, Steven Pittman, Jeff Klein, Ed Klein, Richard D’Arcy. Memorials may be made to United Hospice of Marlette or St. Michael Catholic Church. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644.
