ROBERT HAROLD KEATING
Robert H. Keating, 83, of Cass City, died Thursday, September 18, 2008. He was born October 29, 1924 in Cass City to R.D. and Susie (Vallance) Keating. He married D. Marian Keating December 23, 1944 in Trinity United Methodist Church, Cass City. She died January 22, 2006.
Bob graduated from Cass City High School. He then graduated from Cleary College, U. of M. Banking School, The School for Bank Administration at University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Northwestern University Trust School. Bob worked for the former Pinney State Bank then Chemical Bank for 40 years retiring in 1988 as President. He also served on the bank Board of Directors for nearly 25 years. Bob was a member and past Worshipful Master of the Tyler Masonic Lodge #317 F & AM and a member and past President of the Cass City Rotary. He served as President of the Cass City Industrial Development Corporation. Bob served as administrator of many estates including the estate of Helen and Albin Stevens overseeing the construction of the community pool. Bob was a lifelong member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church and the Cass City United Methodist Church serving on the building committee for the new church. After the death of his parents, Bob ran the business affairs of their Standard Oil dealership and their farm. After his retirement, Bob earned his Certified Financial Planner designation. Bob was very community minded. He loved to dance and was an excellent dancer. Bob truly loved his family especially his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his sons: Ed (Noreen) Keating of Bay City, Phil (Maggie) Keating of Big Rapids; grandchildren: Steven Keating, Ann Keating, James Keating; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Robert Keating; brother, Leslie Karr; sister, Mildred Sussex.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Rev. Paul Donelson of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church. Pallbearers for Mr. Keating: Ed Keating, Phil Keating, Steven Keating, Ann Keating, James Keating, and Luke Karr.
