DONALD MILLS KAUFMAN
Donald Mills Kaufman, 89, of Cass City, died Friday, June 16, 2017 in his home. He was born May 18, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Jesse and Alice (Mills) Kaufman. He married Eunice Catherine Tuckey August 14, 1954 in Cass City.
Don graduated from Madison Heights High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps onboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CV-42 aircraft carrier, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Later he attended Central Michigan University earning a Bachelor's degree, where he met Eunice. After finishing college and marriage, Don and Eunice returned to Cass City for six years to start a family. They moved to Edwardsburg, MI where he worked for TR Arnold and Associates Consulting firm as a draftsman. Don helped design the building plans for Hope United Methodist Church in Edwardsburg. He was an active Lions Club member and served as Scoutmaster to the Boy Scouts before moving back to Cass City. Being an accomplished draftsman, Don enjoyed traveling, sketching and flying kites in his free time. He was a loving husband, father & grandfather.
Don is survived by his wife, Eunice; sons: Douglas (Natasha) Kaufman of Colville, WA; Kurt (Cynthia) Kaufman of San Diego, CA; David (Vipapun) Kaufman of Coeur D Alene, ID; grandchildren: Alan Kaufman, Marina Miguleva, Kenny Don Kaufman; sister, Sarah Marjorie (Marvin) Russ of Madison Heights; sister in laws: Dorothy Mantey, Dolores Tuckey; brother in laws: Charles (Iris) Tuckey, Donald (Kay) Tuckey, Bill (Sylvia) Tuckey, Bob (Barbara) Tuckey, Roy (Cathy) Tuckey; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, John (Gwen) Kaufman; sister, Janice (Arlo) Jorgenson; brother in laws: Carl Mantey & JD Tuckey.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Chaplain Donald Ault of Compassus Hospice and Rev. Jackie Roe officiating. Interment in Elkland Township Cemetery. Military honors under the direction of the U.S. Marines and Cass City VFW Post #3644. Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice, Cass City United Methodist Church or Alzheimer's Association.
