STEPHEN CHARLES KARPOVICH,
68, of Cass City, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 15, 2013 in his home. He was born May 24, 1945 in Cass City to Steve and Katheryn (Lutomski) Karpovich. He married Faye Wanda Messing June 11, 1966 in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.
Stephen served in the U.S. Air Force. He attended Michigan State University. He transferred to Detroit College of Applied Science for training in tool and die making. Stephen was a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker working for various companies until his retirement in 2011. Stephen was also a lifetime farmer helping his Dad as a young man and then farming on his own. He loved working in the soil whether it be farming, yard work or gardening. Stephen loved hard work. He was the neighborhood watch person. He loved helping neighbors plowing snow, mowing, gardening, mowing the road side; he wanted to help.
Stephen was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church. He enjoyed deer hunting and spending time by his pond fishing and relaxing.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Faye; son, David (Tonya) Karpovich of Gagetown; grandchildren: Charles, Rebecca and Nathan; sister, Edna (Gordon) Kujawski and her family of Cass City; godchild, Jane Slater of Ruth. He will also be missed by Faye's brothers, sisters and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Katheryn Karpovich.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown with Rev. Donald Eppenbrock and Sr. Dorothy Ann Blasko officiating. Interment is in St. Agatha Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Karpovich: Nick Lubaczewski, Brett Lubaczewski, Paul Gucwa, Dan Dropeski, Eric Messing, Tim Messing, Reggie Ignash, Tracey Moore and Kevin Kujawski.
