JOHN WILLIAM "JACK" KAPPEN,
57, of Cass City died following a short illness Friday, February 24, 2017 in his home with his family by his side. He was born December 10, 1959 in Cass City to Wallace and Shirley (Koehler) Kappen. He married Susan Marie Langenburg December 23, 1981 in Caro.
Jack graduated from Cass City High School in 1978. He worked as a dairy and crop farmer currently working toward his goal of April 1, 2017 becoming an Official Organic Farm. Jack enjoyed what he called living a simple life and claimed he was born in the wrong era. He enjoyed auctions and sales, and appreciated finding things at a good price. Jack was a great story teller and had a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed deer hunting with family. His love of God and love of family were very important to Jack.
Jack is survived by his wife, Susan; children: Erin (Eric) Kappen-Jaenicke of Cass City, Jacob (Lesley) Kappen of Cass City, Tyson (Lauren) Kappen of Kingston, Nick (Jessica) Kappen of Cass City; grandchildren: Parker, Kennedy, Chase, Lucas and JD; mother, Shirley Kappen of Cass City; brothers: Ronald (Sue) Kappen of Cass City, Robert (Crystal) Kappen of Cass City; sister, Victoria (Ken) Proctor of Akron; many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by Sue's many brothers, sisters and their families. Jack is preceded in death by his daughter, Alexandra "Aleigh" Kappen; his father, Wallace Kappen; his brother, Charles Kappen; his sister, Bonnie Kappen.
Memorial service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ and Rev. Dorothy Thon of Sutton Sunshine United Methodist Church officiating. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
