STANLEY PAUL KIRN, JR.
Stanley P. Kirn, Jr., 82, of Cass City, died Thursday, September 11, 2008 in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. He was born October 1, 1925 in Kuling, China to Rev. Stanley Paul and Esther Anna (Weihing) Kirn. He married Betty Irene Hower August 4, 1950 in Cass City. She died September 25, 1994.
Stanley served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on General MacArthurs Flagship in the Philippines. He worked for the A & P Grocery Store in Cass City and Croswell. Stanley was one of the first two letter carriers for the Cass City Post Office. He was a member of the Cass City VFW Post #3644. Stanley was also a member of the former Salem United Methodist Church and the Cass City United Methodist Church for over 50 years, during which he held several offices including church clerk and secretary. During his retirement, Stanley volunteered to drive people to their appointments. He was an avid Detroit Tiger Baseball fan. Stanley had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed yard work, walking and visiting with his friends in the coffee shop. Stanley enjoyed his family and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Stanley is survived by his children: Michael (Barb) Kirn of Cass City, Melinda Kirn of Grand Rapids, Kathy (Paul) Smith of Deckerville; granddaughters: Whitney Kirn, Meredith Kirn, Kally Smith; grandson, Ben Smith; sister, Marjorie Kirn of Chelsea, MI; brother, John (Alice) Kirn of Wappingers Falls, NY; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a grandson, William Stanley Smith; brother, Lowell Dean Kirn.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Donelson officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery.
