GREGORY ALDEN JONES,
61, of Deford died following a long illness Monday, May 2, 2011 in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center. He was born September 7, 1949 in St. Joseph County, South Bend, IN to Victor and Geraldine (Wright) Jones. He married Mary Hegadorn April 17, 1970 in Detroit.
Greg served in the US Army serving two tours in Vietnam. As a child Greg loved to take things apart to see how they worked. As he grew older he enjoyed creating things and making his own designs work. He did this with cars, anything mechanical and with his carpentry. He worked for International Harvestor in Florida as an Auto Mechanic. Greg later became a Journeyman Carpenter helping to build the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant in Crystal River, Florida. After moving to Texas he worked as a carpenter building homes for Fox and Jacobs. When Greg moved to Michigan he worked for MK Chambers as a Machinist until his health no longer allowed him to work. He enjoyed motorcycles, both riding them and fixing them. Greg loved the outdoors. He loved to watch the deer, birds and other wildlife.
Left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Mary; children: Michael (Dawn) Jones of Armington, IL, Jamie (Ryan) Jones of Normal, IL, Jason Jones of White Bear Lake, MN, Sarah (Jason Lermont) Jones of Cass City; grandchildren: Samantha, Brandon, and Christopher; brothers: George Jones of TX, Dennis (Jeannie) Jones of TX. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2011 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Pastor David Cooper of Deford Community Church officiating. Pallbearers for Mr. Jones will be Michael Jones, Jamie Jones, Jason Jones, Sarah Jones, Jason Lermont, and Don Hegadorn. Honorary pallbearers: Samantha Jones, Brandon Jones, Logan Jones, Christopher Jones and Dennis Jones Memorials may be made to United Hospice of Marlette.
