JOHN MICHAEL “MIKE” WALD
John M. Wald, 80 of Taylor, formerly from Gagetown, died Tuesday, October 17, 2023 in American House Assisted Living Community. He was born October 29, 1942 in Cass City to Vincent and Alma (Phelan) Wald. He married Nelva Fernandes. She died July 1, 2004.
Mike attended Gagetown schools. He joined the United States Air Force where earned the rank of Master Sergeant with his primary specialty being that of a jet engine technician. Mike retired from this duty after twenty-two years of service. He then worked for the United States Post Office as a letter carrier in Gagetown until retiring after twenty-two years. Mike loved animals and always had a pet dog or a cat. He enjoyed time spent volunteering with Nelva during the Thumb Octagon Barn Fall Family Days making donuts. Mike was a proud spectator of his grandchildren’s various sporting events.
Mike is survived by his grandchildren: Jason (Sarah) Wald of Allen Park; Samantha Wald of Stanton; great grandchildren: Jack, Josh, Myles, Charlee, Maxwell. He is preceded in death by his brothers: George Wald, Richard Joseph ‘Joe” Wald; sister, Mary Louise Merz.
Funeral Mass held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023 in Our Lady Consolata Parish, Gagetown with Fr. Robert Pare officiating. Interment will be in St. Agatha Cemetery, Gagetown. Military honors conducted by Cass City V.F.W. Post #3644 and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
