Bertha S. Jaynes, 88, of Colville, WA, formerly of Caro, died Friday, March 14, 2003 in Pinewood Terrace Nursing Home, Colville, WA. She was born November 6, 1914 in Oula, WI to Ernest and Alina (Kangas) Rantala. She married Orville K. Jaynes June 14, 1936. He died June 1973.
Bertha worked as a waitress in Caro for many years. She was cafeteria manager for Caro High School for thirteen years until her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and baking.
Bertha is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann (Frank) Spencer of Fairgrove; grandchildren: Cathy (Ron) Czekai of Cass City, Jim (Cheryl) Spencer of Sterling, Linda Mellendorf of Clarkston, Mike (Cheryl) Spencer of Cass City; 15 great grandchildren; sisters: Vivian (Melvin) Johnson of South Range, WI, Eva (Edwin) Kamerian of Renton, WA, Irene Ranta of Superior, WI, Marian (Joe) Anderson of WA; brothers: Archie (Ruth) Rantal of TX, Ralph (Sylvia) Rantala of Cleveland, OH; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters: Ruth Plunkett and Alice Wentela.
Memorial services held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Gilford United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wickert officiating. Interment is in Almer Township Cemetery, Caro. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
