Janice and Alvin Smielewski

JANICE SMIELEWSKI and ALVIN SMIELEWSKI

 Janice Smielewski, age 86, of Ubly passed away July 29, 2024 in Marlette. She was born December 18, 1937 in Cass City to Clarence and Leona Guigar. She was married to Clayton McPherson from 1956 until his passing in 1966. She married Alvin Smielewski on July 13, 1968. They were married for fifty-two years. 

 Alvin Smielewski, age 84, of Ubly passed away December 13, 2020. He was born October 10, 1936 to Louis and Irene Smielewski. Alvin retired from the United States Army as a First Sergeant and bravely served five terms in Vietnam.

 Janice and Alvin enjoyed gardening, canning, playing bingo, and spending time with their family. They were animal lovers and enjoyed the love of their dog Molly and the dozens of stray kittens they cared for. Janice and Alvin were dedicated grandparents and great grandparents. They loved visits from their many grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, and family. 

 Janice and Alvin are survived by their children: Rhonda (Duane) Holdwick, Rick McPherson, Rodney McPherson, Ryan Smielewski; Janice’s siblings: Larry (Diane) Guigar, Donna (Dave) Klebba; Alvin's Siblings: Jackie Hunt, Jim (Deb) Smielewski, Doreen Osentoski; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. Janice was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Leona Guigar; brother, Floyd Guigar; sister, Karen Conley; son, Russel McPherson. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Irene Smielewski; brother, Gerald Smielewski; brother, Terry Smielewski; sister, Cynthia Flannery.

 Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Sam Leppert, Funeral Celebrant officiating. Burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Ubly. Military honors conducted by the Ubly V.F.W. Post # 6965 and the  U.S. Army Honor Guard.
