FLORENCE MAE HURD
Florence M. Hurd, 79, of Deford, died Monday, December 18, 2006 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro, following a short illness. She was born August 8, 1927 in Elkton to William and Vera (Brown) Commins. She married Norman Edward Hurd. He died March 28, 1983.
Florence farmed with her husband until the children left home. Then she took jobs in manufacturing plants including, Anrod, Snover Stamping and Walbro. She also babysat many children over the years. Florence was a member of Novesta Church of Christ. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making afghans for many family members and church friends. Florence enjoyed gardening especially working in her flowers.
Florence is survived by her children: Janet (Russ) Bradley of Branchville, SC, Raymond (Gayle) Hurd of Marlette, Grace (Harland) Murdick of Caro, Ellen (Donald) Mills Jr. of Watertown, Norman Hurd Jr. of FL; 26 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother, Raymond (June) Commins of Romeo; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Norma Connolly; sisters: stillborn, Vera; Jeanette Grimsley; brothers: Bert Commins, Roy Commins.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2006 in Novesta Church of Christ with Chuck Emmert officiating. Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International or Novesta Church of Christ. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Hurd are deacons from the church.
