Douglas Hunter, 81, of Kingston, died unexpectedly Friday, March 21, 2003 in his home. He was born December 15, 1921, in Kingston to Alex and Mildred (Hall) Hunter. He married Jane Deery January 5, 1942 in Mayville.
Douglas served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatre, receiving several Medals and Bronze Battle Stars. He was a truck driver for Consolidated Freight Line for 25 years and then for Short Freight Lines of Bay City retiring in 1982. Douglas was a 3member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 486 and the Kingston VFW Post #5317. He was a former member of the Mayville Eagles. Douglas enjoyed working on his farm.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Jane; children: Ruth A. (William) Ruff of Bay City, Robert (LuAnn) Hunter of Decker; daughter-in-law, Paula Hunter of Ponder, TX; grandchildren: Dillon Hunter, Laurie (Keith) Roggenbuck, Todd (Kerstin) Hunter, Kirk Hunter; great grandchildren: Seth and Evan Roggenbuck; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death his son, Marley Hunter; brother, Jack Hunter; sister, Emily Walker.
Funeral services held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2003 in Kranz Funeral Home Kingston with Rev. Elroy Gilmore, Jr. Officiating. Interment is in Fremont Cemetery, Mayville. Memorials may be made to the Kingston V.F.W. Post #5317. Military services under the direction of Kingston V.F.W. Post #5317.
