NEWELL JOHN HUBBARD
Newell J. Hubbard, 81, of Kingston, died Friday, May 30, 2008 in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center. He was born September 6, 1926 in Novesta Township to Newell William (Jack) and Lela Marian (Slack) Hubbard. He married Helen Joyce Bader Chapin December 20, 1980 in Shabbona United Methodist Church.
Newell served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an M-1 Rifle Marksman. He served in Korea 1944 to 1946 as a Sgt. Medical Aidman. Newell earned the Good Conduct Medal and Victory medal. Newell worked for the elevator in Deford, Marlette Homes, and retired from Marlette Community Schools in 1992 as a maintenance worker. He was a member of Shabbona United Methodist Church and a former member of the Caro Masons. Newell enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and was a very talented woodworker.
Newell is survived by his wife, Helen; children: Bradley (Nancy) Hubbard of North Branch, Richard (Diane) Chapin of Marlette, Vickie (Frank) Udell of Westland, Paul (Kathy) Chapin of Decker, Lane (Cindy) Chapin of Marlette; grandchildren: Donald Hubbard, Kimberly (Trent) Driver, Jason Hubbard, Daniel Wirth, Dennis (Rachael) Wirth, Katie Villarreal, Benjamin Wirth, Amber Hubbard, Brannen (Cary) Udell, Amber (Chris) Daves, Riley (Cecelia) Chapin, Jordan Chapin, Kayla Chapin, Cody Chapin; great grandchildren: Kiya, Alena, Brooklyn, Paige, Payton, Brennan, Kali, Dustin, Hayley, Hannah, Ian, William, Westley; brother, Orville (Sharon) Hubbard of Clarkston; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Hubbard; grandson, Aaron Hubbard and niece, Marsha Turner.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Rev. Ellen Burns, Shabbona United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Hubbard will be his grandsons: Donald Hubbard, Jason Hubbard, Riley Chapin, Brannen Udell, Jordan Chapin and Cody Chapin. Memorials may be made to Shabbona United Methodist Church or United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center.
