Onalee Mildred Hopper (Keilitz)

January 25, 1936 — July 24, 2022

ONALEE MILDRED HOPPER,
86, of Deford, Michigan, died peacefully Sunday, July 24, 2022 in the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro, MI. She was born January 25, 1936 in Caro to Otto and Mildred (Horst) Keilitz. She married Theron (Whitey) Hopper on March 20, 1953. He died October 10, 1978.

Onalee attended Caro High School. She dedicated her life to caring for children; first and foremost, her own five children. Her sons were involved in many sports and activities which she and Whitey faithfully supported. During their Little League, baseball, football, and basketball days, you could always find Onalee on the bleachers cheering for the Pirates and the Red Hawks. Onalee became a significant encourager for Kerri as she completed her higher education degree and later started her own business.

Onalee loved to bake and cook and was always happy to share her creations with others. After her children were grown, Onalee cared for the children of many families in the Deford area, serving as a favorite babysitter. Later on, Onalee had the joy of caring for her own grandchildren as well. Ask any one of them and they will tell you their grandma was always there for them, no matter what.

Onalee is survived by her children: Gene (Marlene) Hopper of Cass City; Kip Hopper of Deford; Kerri (Glenn) Scerbicke of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren: Emily (Michael) Witkowski, Eric Hopper, Zachary Hopper (Lynzee Bigelow), Matthew Hopper, Rachelle Hopper (Scott Gucwa), Alex (Krupa) Scerbicke, Teigan Scerbicke; eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Theron; sons: Kim Hopper in 2002, Kyle Hopper in 2010; parents, Otto and Mildred Keilitz; brother, Gene Keilitz; sister, Margaret Keilitz.
