MILTON ARLINGTON "BARNEY" HOFFMAN,
of Cass City died Sunday, March 11, 2012 in Hills and Dales General Hospital following a short illness . He was born March 3, 1919 in Cass City to Milton and Edith (Vader) Hoffman. He married Ruth M. Anderson October 26, 1946 in Montrose. She died March 15, 2010.
Barney's work history includes mostly agriculture related jobs. He worked as a DHIA Supervisor and Testor and then as an Assistant Manager at Kinde Farmers Co-op retiring after 8 years. He went back to work at Agriculture Farm Chemical in Frankenmuth retiring as manager. Barney retired a final time after working as Manager for the Northwood Apartments. Barney also farmed raising beef cattle. He was a part time school bus driver for a few years and was a substitute mail carrier for thirteen years. Barney was a member of Cass City United Methodist Church and Masonic Tyler Lodge #317. He loved animals, raising horses for many years. Barney always encouraged the kids to take part in 4H with their horses. Barney enjoyed watching sports on television having discussions with his children about their favorite sport. Barney was a big supporter of scouting. He was the first to receive Eagle Scout status in Cass City.
Barney is survived by his children: Gail Ian of Northville, Kell (Shirley) Hoffman of Cass City, Robbin (Jonathan) Rice of Caro, Randy (Kim) Hoffman of Harrisburg, VA; grandchildren: Bethany Wicksall, Robert (Maggie) Gengler, Erin (Matt) Hiiter, Tom Davis, Robert Davis, Patty (Eric) Halvorson, Roger Hoffman, Daniel Hoffman, Christopher Hoffman, Ryan Kline; great grandchildren: Victoria, Joey, Katie, Zach, Sulley, Parker and Charlie; nephew, Mark Pearce of Longmont, CO; niece, Lynn (Christopher) Miller of Zeeland. He is preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Pearce.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Rev. Jackie Roe officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery Cass City. Pallbearers for Mr. Hoffman: Rob Gengler, Bob Davis, Tom Davis, Randy Hoffman, Tom Herron and Matt Hiiter. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
