ELSIE MAY HICKS
Elsie M. Hicks, 87, of Deford went home to be with the Lord following a short illness Thursday, May 9, 2013, in Timberline Lodge AFC with her loving family by her side. She was born July 17, 1925 in Ellington Township to Glen and Eva Mae (Vandemark) Tousley. She married Gerald L. Hicks May 18, 1946 in her parent's home in Deford. He died September 25, 2012.
Elsie graduated from Caro High School. She was Tuscola County Clerk for over 35 years including her time as deputy clerk. Elsie served as a Tuscola County Commissioner for a term and a half. Elsie and Gerald were the Tuscola County Honor couple of the year. She was a member of Deford United Methodist Church for many years, then she attended Novesta Church of Christ. Elsie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Methodist Women's Society of Christian Service. Elsie loved quilting, making quilts for her entire family. She enjoyed reading, sewing, china painting, and gardening. Elsie loved the Lord and her children. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Elsie is survived by her children: Eileen (Rick) Pourcho of Birmingham, Linda Gray of Cass City, Fred (Carol) Hicks of Deford; grandchildren: Bradley (Alissa) Gray of Lake Orion, Jennifer (Joel) Brown of Montgomery, AL, Brian (Melissa) Hicks of Deford, Andrew (Kimberly) Gray of Cass City, Rebecca (Scott) Riggs of Berkley, Kristy (Bradley) Speirs of Cass City; great grandchildren: Emma, Julian, Spencer, Clara, Gabriel, Jonathan, Ethan, Eliana, Kendall, Madelyn, Kalee, Kacee, Lucas, Elise, Emily and Ethan; brother, Ken (Doris) Tousley. She is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Phil Gray; and in-laws, Archie and Gladys Hicks.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Novesta Church of Christ with Brad Speirs officiating. Interment is in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Hicks: Brad Gray, Andy Gray, Brian Hicks, Scott Riggs, Fred Hicks, Brad Speirs. Memorials may be made to Novesta Church of Christ.
