BRETT ALLEN HENDRICK,
57, of Troy, KS, died suddenly Monday, March 25, 2013 in his home. He was born May 14, 1955 in Caro to Morris and Gertrude (Venema) Hendrick. He married Susan Gay Emede December 15, 1997 in Las Vegas, NV.
Brett graduated from Caro High School in 1973. He worked as a machinist for area factories including Bradford in Detroit and Jameson in Saginaw. Brett began his truck driving career in Elkton eventually working for American Pride Trucking for General Cable Freight and then created his own company, Eagle Spirits Enterprise. His meticulous and precise way of working as a machinist carried through in his life and his love of restoring cars and motorcycles. He completely restored his 1970 Mustang Mach 1 and restored and rebuilt many motorcycles. Bret enjoyed drag racing and as a guest of the Cowin family, traveled to Australia with their race team transporting their racers around the country. Brett enjoyed classic rock music but you could occasionally find him playing his banjo. Most important to Brett was his family. He loved his wife and treated her like a queen. He gave easily of his time to help the children and grandchildren from fixing a lawnmower to fixing a car. He gave easily of his wisdom and would speak with boldness, clear and definite in his words, to help friends and family analyze the situation they were in. He gave easily of his heart and loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews very much and was always willing to help them in any way they needed. He was a true American heart and soul.
Brett is survived by his wife, Susan; children: Douglas Hendrick of Cass City, Ryan Hendrick of Bay City, Urian Spotts, Jeremy Spotts, Roger Smith, Travis Smith; grandchildren: Kaelyn, Preston, Aliya, Ashton, Tobias, Holden, Brody; mother, Gertrude Hendrick of Saginaw; mother-in-law, Bette Emede of Vestaburg; sister-in-law, Cheryl Sage of Vestaburg; brothers: Morris (Tammy) Hendrick Jr. of Caro, Max Hendrick of Saginaw, Dennis (Michelle) Hendrick of Deford; sister, Theresa (Isaiah) Butler of Saginaw; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Morris Hendrick.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 in Novesta Church of Christ with Brad Speirs officiating. Interment will take place in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Hendrick: Morris Hendrick, Max Hendrick, Dennis Hendrick, Isaiah Butler, Gary Smith, Jim Rosenstangel. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
