Mary Evelyn Hendra, 91, of Cass City, died Monday, October 24, 2011 in Brian's House in Bay City. She was born February 4, 1920 at home in Cloverdale to Frederick and Martha (Moody) Horn. She married Rev. Leland W. Sherrard June 20, 1942 in Cloverdale. He died February 26, 1973. She married Wellington Hendra December 8, 1979 in Cass City Missionary Church, Cass City. He died April 1, 1996.
Evelyn and Leland served many years in the ministry in the Michigan District of the Missionary Church serving in Mancelona, Grand Rapids, Duck Lake and Mizpah and Riverside churches in Cass City. Evelyn worked for General Cable retiring after over 21 years. She was a member of Cass City Missionary Church and served as a Deaconess there. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening and working in her flower gardens. Evelyn greatly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Marcia Schember of Cass City, Milton (Marilou) Sherrard of South Bend, IN, Delores (Rev. Jonathan) Boyer of Bay City; daughter-in-law, Colleen Sherrard of Lapeer; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by step-children: Janice (Jerry) Lacey of Croswell, Paula (James) Dell of Kimball, Karen (David) Long of Croswell, Dale (Pam) Hendra of Croswell; 13 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great grandchildren; 3 step-great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Evelyn is preceded in death by her son, David Sherrard; great grandson, Jason; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lewis Horn, John (Alice) Horn, Dwight Horn; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mabel (Orville) Forman, Esther Horn, Ruth (Elmer) Anders; step-son, Don Hendra; step-grandson, Bert.
Funeral service held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011 in Cass City Missionary Church with Pastor Phil Burkett officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery.
