IVA MARION HARTWICK,
80, of Deford died following a short illness Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit, Cass City. She was born July 15, 1938 at home in Peck, the first of five children born to Adolph and Helen (Woodruff) Thom. She married Allan Jay Hartwick December 13, 1958 in Sandusky. He died September 2, 2000.
Iva graduated from Peck High School with the class of 1956. She worked for Cass City Floral where she learned the art of floral design. For many years Iva worked for Erla’s Grocery Store as the Deli Manager greeting all customers with her big smile. She later worked for Bill’s Foodland in Caro. As a young person on the farm she helped with numerous things like driving the beet truck, plowing, and any other chores that needed to be done. During deer hunting season, Iva helped with the Deering deer processing. She also did custom sewing in her home, decorated wedding cakes, arranged wedding flowers and did catering. Iva served on the Novesta Township Board as well as worked many elections. Most important to Iva was her family, especially her grandchildren.
Iva is survived by her children: Lynn (Al Lowe) Kilbourn of Cass City, Cort (Annette) Hartwick of Deford, Lori Welch of Imlay City, Carla (Gavin) Frederick of Deford; siblings: Gladys Walker of Phoenix, AZ, Phyllis (Darrie) Morris of Hart, Donnie (Lynne) Thom of Peck; Sara (Tony) Pinto of Edgewater, FL; grandchildren: Bryan Kilbourn, Aaron Kilbourn, Jamie (Mandy) Kilbourn, Justin Kilbourn, Heaven Hartwick, Cortland Hartwick, Tallie Lynn, Alivia Spencer, Addison Frederick, Micah (Kathy) Randall, Crystal (Tim) Scott; great grandchildren: Hailey, Josie and a third due in May. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Dwight Walker; nephew, Anthony Scott Walker; niece, Andrea Costa; Lori’s partner, Steve Lynn; grandson, Jeffrey Randall.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with
Greg Harger and Jason McInally officiating. Memorials may be made to Iva Hartwick Scholarship Fund. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery in the spring. Pallbearers for Mrs. Hartwick: Bryan Kilbourn, Aaron Kilbourn, Jamie Kilbourn, Justin Kilbourn, Cortland Hartwick and Gavin Frederick.
