JOHN JAY HARTT,
88, of Bay City, died unexpectedly Sunday, September 15, 2013 in his home. He was born February 14, 1925 in Caro to John Jeffrey and Maude (McCullum) Hartt.
Jay graduated from Oxford High School in 1943. He played baseball and football during his high school years. Jay served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunner on oil ships. After the service he served in the Air Force Reserves at Willow Run Airport in Detroit. He was called to help with the Berlin Blockade and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Jay worked as a mechanic. In years past, Jay enjoyed hunting especially deer hunting. Jay enjoyed watching professional baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers and he enjoyed watching professional football.
Jay is survived by his children: Michael Hartt, Howard J. Hartt and Dennis Hartt; two grandchildren; brother, William Hartt of Bay City; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by eleven siblings: James Hartt, Bertyl Hartt, Harry Hartt, Marian Twyman, Walter Hartt, Audrey Corey, Jack Hartt, Lila Hartt, Juanita Cooksey, Howard Hartt and Betty Ludeman.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 in Kranz Funeral Home Kingston with Pastor JT Mabe officiating. Interment will take place in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston.
