John C. Hartley, 92, of Lapeer, formerly of Cass City, died Sunday, October 15, 2017 in Pines of Lapeer Assisted Living. He was born May 13, 1925 in Cass City to Jay C. and Mae Belle (Rondo) Hartley. He married Marjorie Jean Sharrard October 8, 1946 in Cass City. She died February 20, 1998.
A Purple Heart recipient, John served in the United States Marine Corps. during World War II in Guam and Iwo Jima. He worked in the paint department for General Motors for thirty-three years and later as a part time house painter in Pontiac. John bowled in various leagues and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting deer, pheasants and rabbits. He loved playing cards with his family and friends.
John is survived by his children: Joyce (Myron) Boloyan of Port Richey, FL; Sandy (Wayne) Hutchinson of Lapeer; Larry (Tina) Hartley of Lapeer; Linda (Tim) Spangler of Lapeer; Brenda (Michael) Seabrook of Holly; grandchildren: Larry Boloyan, Carl Boloyan, Jeff Hutchison, Jason Hutchinson, Josh (Nicole) Hartley, Angela Seabrook, Kelly (Jeremy) Francis; twelve great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Luella Lyle of Boca Raton, FL. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; grandsons: Myron Boloyan, James Spangler; brother, Carl Hartley; sisters: Alice Cybulski, Clara Cybulski, Mildred Parker.
Funeral service held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Eric King officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Military honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. and the Cass City V.F.W. Post # 3644. Memorials may be made to the McLaren Hospice of Lapeer.
