JOHN CLARKE HAIRE
87, of Cass City, died unexpectedly, Thursday, July 16, 2009 in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born June 22, 1922 in Pinconning to Clarke and Margaret (Dumond) Haire. He married Dorothy Helen Miller September 20, 1947 in Pinconning. She died April 23, 1991. He later married Esther Alta Allen February 14, 1995 in Hawaii.
John served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Journalism. John purchased the Cass City Chronicle in 1951. He was a member of Cass City Rotary and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He enjoyed trout fishing, reading, traveling and eating out. John loved spending time with his grandchildren especially watching Parker play ball. He taught his children to be independent and his main focus was on his family.
John is survived by his wife, Esther; children: Clarke (Karen) Haire of Cass City, Lynn (Larry) Sroka of Plymouth, B.J. (Roger) Salo of Plymouth; grandchildren: Susi, Jimmy, Jeffrey, Suzanne, Cindy, Maddy, Gracie, Parker and Kacey; great grandchildren: Lilly, Annabelle; step-children: William (Julia) Allen of Six Lakes, Lee (Susan) Allen of Midland, Linda Allen of Bay City, Jayne Zito of Rochester; step-grandchildren: Kellie (Donald), Jason, Kris (Jerry), Debbie (Tim), Jeremy, Angela, Ben; step-great grandchildren: John, Nichole, Megan, Rebecca, Jessica, Elizabeth; step great great grandchildren: Emma, Brian; sister, Jean (Chuck) Rollman of Green Bay, WI; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret St. John.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Boyer officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Pallbearers for Mr. Haire are Jeff Hartel, Ron Crandall, Chuck Rollman, Jr., Memorials may be made to Cass City Athletic Boosters or Trout Unlimited.
