JOHN RICHARD GUINTHER,
78, of Cass City died following a battle with cancer Friday, September 13, 2019 in his home. John born November 5, 1940 in Cass City to John and Marion (Brown) Guinther. He married Priscilla Ann Hull November 22, 1966 in Cass City. She died April 28, 2005.
John attended Cass City High School and worked for the Cass City Milk Plant. He joined the U.S. Army and served for two years. Following his time in the military, John worked for Pontiac Truck and Bus retiring after 32 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1049 of Caro. John enjoyed working on his little farm at home with cows, pigs and chickens. An outdoorsman, he loved camping and deer hunting with family and friends. John was fond of a good Euchre game and enjoyed casino trips in Manistee.
John is survived by his children: Tina (Marty) Decker of Caro; Nancy (John) Green of Cass City; Jane (Joe) Tait of Caro; Joe (Janice) Smith of Caro; Kim (Gene) Larson of Davisburg; brother-in-law, Jack Hull of Atlanta, GA; 27 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; brother, James (Joann) Guinther of Cass City; sisters: Norma Szarapski of Cass City; Marilyn (Jim) Young of Caro; many nieces, nephews; his special friend and “honey”, Irene Hudson and her son, Brent (Connie) Hudson. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Jack Leroy Smith; grandson, Justin Decker; brothers: William “Hazen” Guinther, Harold Guinther, Lyle Guinther, Lawrence Guinther, Roger Guinther, Charles Guinther, Stanley Guinther; infant brother, John Leslie Guinther; sisters: Evelyn Gruber, Irene Doerr.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2019 in Kranz Funeral Home with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City officiating. Interment will be in Ellington Township Cemetery. Military honors conducted by Cass City VFW Post # 3644 and the U.S. Army. Pallbearers for Mr. Guinther will be his grandsons. Memorials may be made to Justin Decker Memorial Fund.
