Gregory James Michels

 GREGORY JAMES MICHELS 

            Gregory J. Michels, 77, of Deford, died Sunday, January 21, 2024 in McLaren Bay Region Hospital.   He was born October 16, 1946 in Detroit to Oliver Arnold and Jeanne Marie (Fillion) Michels Sr.  He married Sherry Lynn (Chippi) on May 22, 1982 in Shabbona.       

            Greg served in the United States Navy for four years, earning a Vietnam service medal with one bronze star.  He was employed as a chief engineer at General Motors until his retirement.   Greg liked to fish and sing along to songs played on the radio.  He enjoyed golf cart rides with his canine companion, Barky Von Schnauzer.  Greg will be remembered for being a happy soul that loved his family.  

            Greg is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Sherry of Deford; daughter, Nichole (Joe) Watson; grandchildren:  Danielle and Cameron; siblings:  Nicholas Michels, Thomas Michels, Richard Michels, Susan Nance.   He is preceded in death by his brother, Oliver Michels Jr.  

            Private funeral service held in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Sam Leppert, Funeral Celebrant officiating.  Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery in the spring.  Memorials may be made to Department of Michigan Veteran Services Division.
