Allison Green, 93, of Kingston, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 in Northwood Meadows, Cass City. He was born, October 28, 1911 in Caro to James and Evelyn (Kitely) Green. He married Marjorie C. Denhoff December 26, 1934 in Ohio. She died November 7, 1994.
Allison graduated from Jeffrey rural school near Kingston, Caro High School and Central Michigan University. He was a member of the Kingston United Methodist Church, the original Tuscola County Board of Education and the Board of Directors of the Kingston State Bank. Mr. Green also served for 15 years in public education in the Thumb area as a teacher, principal and superintendent. In 1950 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Tuscola County and served 14 years, eight as Republican Floor Leader and the last two Years (1963-64) as Speaker of the House. In 1965 he was appointed State Treasurer by Governor George Romney and served until he retired in 1978, the longest serving State Treasurer in Michigan history. He also served many years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan at Ann Arbor—his last term ending in February of 1994. In their retirement years the Greens did some traveling and were active in their Church and many community activities.
Allison is survived by his children: Joan (John) Chapin of Caro, James (Jill) Green of Kingston, Thomas (Lori) Green of Howell, Margie (Darwin) Costello of Okemos, Robert (Marilyn) Green of Cass City; 19 grandchildren: 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Bess (Max) Patrick of Marlette; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Twila Bigelow.
Funeral services held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2005 in Kingston United Methodist Church, with Rev. Terry Butters officiating. Memorials may be made to Kingston High School Scholarship Fund, Kingston United Methodist Church or United Hospice of Marlette. Interment is in Kingston Cemetery.
