NORMAN NEIL GRAY
Norman N. Gray, 88, of Cass City, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 in Tendercare Nursing Facility in Cass City. He was born September 12, 1920 in Harbor Beach to Hugh and Elizabeth (Kelley) Gray. He married Josephine Olsowy, June 16, 1945 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City.
Norman received a Purple Heart during World War II serving with the Army Corps of Engineers in the Aleutian Islands. He worked at C.R. Hunt Construction, retiring after almost 40 years. Norman was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church and Cass City Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council # 8892. He was a member of Cass City VFW Post #3644, serving as Post Commander 1991-1992. Norman was a member of DAV in Caro. He enjoyed woodworking, reading western novels, playing bingo and dancing. He loved to play harmonica for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Norman is survived by his wife, Josephine; daughter-in-law, Linda Gray of Cass City; grandchildren: Brad (Alissa) Gray of Flint, Andy (Kim) Gray of Cass City; great-grandchildren: Julian, Emma, Spencer, Kalee, Kacee; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Phillip Gray; sisters: Esther Gray, Gertrude Gray; brothers: Irving, Arnold and Arlington Gray, and three infant siblings.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen J. Fillion officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Pancratius Catholic Church. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644.
