Thelma M. Graham, 100, of Cass City, died Thursday, August 19, 2010 in Hills & Dales General Hospital following a short illness. She was born January 21, 1910 in Detroit to Frederick and Minnie (Freeman) Lown. She married LeRoy Graham March 25, 1944 in Bowling Green, OH. He died August 10, 1972.
Thelma was a very athletic young person. She enjoyed playing tennis. Her parents often visited Belle Isle and Thelma would swim in and skate on the Detroit River. After graduating from High School she worked for Vernor’s Ginger Ale in Detroit. Thelma said Mr. Vernor was a very nice man and told them they could have as much Vernors as they liked. She also sang in the church choir. After marrying Roy, they moved from the city to buy the Maharg farm in Cass City which they ran until Roy got sick. At that time they moved into town to make things easier for Thelma. Thelma worked for Walbro Manufacturing for a few years. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and she regularly attended the former Salem United Methodist Church, now the Cass City United Methodist Church. She enjoyed listening to the Gaithers and recently attended their concert in Saginaw. Thelma enjoyed watching Tiger Baseball and University of Michigan Football, remembering fondly when her brother played on the U of M Football team while he attended college there.
Thelma is survived by many special friends and neighbors including; Betty Greenleaf, Sherryl Seeley, Sue and Wally Laming, Ruth Whittaker and Don Greenleaf. She is preceded in death by her sister, Venna Lown and brother Harley Lown.
Funeral service held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Rev. Jackie Roe of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cass River Pet Friendz.
