Joseph C. Gottler, II, 60, of Mayille, died suddenly Sunday, May 5, 2013 in McLaren Lapeer Region, Lapeer. He was born December 22, 1952 in Cass City to Joseph Carl and Delores Mae (Brown) Gottler. He married Sara Kassie Harp July 12, 1975 in Silverwood. She died October 10, 1996.
Joe served in the U.S. Army. He attended Saginaw Valley State University, Mott Community College and Central Michigan University receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a Special Education certification. He taught Alternative Education at Caro High School for nearly 15 years. Joe enjoyed running marathons, bicycling and reading. He was dedicated to health and fitness. He loved animals from cats to potbelly pigs, chickens, goats and emus. He enjoyed visiting the stock yards, flea markets and local farmers markets. He was a member of the Caro Exchange Club.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Cheyenne Gottler of Deford; mother, Delores and Rich Lester of Kingston; sisters: Linda (Daniel) Niebauer of Marlette, Nancy Croll of Willis, TX; brothers: William Lee Gottler of Kingston, Jim Gottler of Kingston, Steve Gottler of Kingston; Cheyenne's mother, Vicky Parker of Deford; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Carl Gottler, I; brother-in-law, Joe Croll.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston with Pastor Dennis Hebert of Marlette Community of Christ Church officiating. Interment will be in Dayton Center Cemetery, Mayville. Memorials may be made to Caro Exchange Club Fund or Kingston Fire and Rescue.
