RJ D. Gilmore, 83, of Mayville died Monday, December 26, 2016 in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center. He was born November 22, 1933 in Silverwood to Elmer Ray and Neva Marion (Warner) Gilmore. He married Joyce Maxine Hackel on October 23, 1954 in Kingston.
RJ graduated from Kingston High School in 1954. He worked for Pontiac Motors as a mechanic and supervisor for 29 years until retiring in 1992. RJ was drafted and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Mayville VFW Post. RJ loved restoring old Ford tractors, attending tractor shows and parades. He enjoyed auctions and spending time outside gardening.
RJ is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters: Kelli (Werner Bauer) Gilmore of Eastpointe; Lynne (Leon) Thornton of Mayville; grandchildren: Ashlyn (Jacob Dawson) Thornton, Kris Bauer; brother, Don Gilmore of Austin, KY; sisters: Beverly Mallory of Kingston, Eleanor "Joy" Davis of Brown City, Janet (Henry) Rock of Mayville, Lois (Tim) Beatty of Pt. Huron; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 in Kingston United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Abbott officiating. Interment is in Kingston Cemetery.
