J.D. EVANS GIBBARD,
89, of Ubly, passed away Friday evening, September 2, 2022 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 27, 1933 in Austin Township, Sanilac County to Thomas and Nina (Gruber) Gibbard. He married Lillian Anne Otulakowski in 1958 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City.
Evans was a milk hauler in the Thumb area before becoming the “hardest working” construction worker for Brencal Contractors, Inc., for which he was employed for over twenty-five years. He also helped on the family farm after work and on the weekends. After retiring, he was employed with SRO Maintenance cutting roadsides in Lapeer County and then went on to work for WP Walsh & Co. with home lockdowns and maintenance. In his spare time, he liked cutting wood, woodworking projects, and tinkering with tractors. Evans was a past member of the Thumb Two Cylinder Club and enjoyed wintering in Florida. He loved spending time with all of his family, and his friend Jimmy.
Evans is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Lillian; children: Theresa Welby, Daniel (Christina) Gibbard, Christine (Greg) Moore, Sandy (Dan) Taylor, Kim (Kevin) Thiel; grandchildren: Cheryl Laming, Tory (Cyrus) Healy, Wesley (Amanda) Gibbard, Gregory (Sherry) Moore, Micheal (Erin) Moore, Katie Moore, Heather Moore, Brian (Lauren) Taylor; great grandchildren: Jordon, Thomas, Timothy, Jacob, Gabrielle, Liam, Zander, Olivia, Bronson, Ashton, Amelia, Avery, Ryleigh, Adalyn, Malorie, Brayden, Benjamin, Cali, Haeven, Easton, Hailee, Nash, Raegan; sisters: Ruth Ann Regal, Mildred Wilson. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas; brothers: Gerald and Carl; sister, Donna; granddaughter, Becky; son-in-law, Keith and many more beloved family members.
Funeral service held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Gibbard will be: Dan Taylor, Brian Taylor, Gregory Moore, Greg Moore, Micheal Moore, Kevin Thiel, Wesley Gibbard.
