Gertrude Tressa Hendrick

GERTRUDE T. HENDRICK  

Gertrude Hendrick, 90, of Essexville, died peacefully Monday, October 16, 2023 in her home.  She was born May 21, 1933, the youngest of nine children, born to Clarence and Edith (DeJong) Venema.  She married Morris E. Hendrick, Sr. in June of 1952.  He died April 16, 2009. 

Gertrude graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw.  She earned a varsity letter playing percussion in the school band.  Gertrude worked at Severance Tool Industries of Saginaw as a precision hand grinder until her retirement.  She always took pride in being an independent woman and a handy lady.  Gertrude enjoyed mowing the lawn and traveling, especially to Florida.  Her grandchildren were the light of her life.  She enjoyed attending all their motor cross races and various sporting events.  Gertrude treasured spending time with several canine companions through the years, most recently her loyal Maltese, Pooh Bear.

Gertrude is survived by her children:  Morris (Tammy) Hendrick, Jr. of Caro, Max Hendrick of Saginaw, Dennis (Michelle) Hendrick of Deford, Teresa (Isiah) Butler Jr. of Saginaw; grandchildren:  Jason, Amanda, Tracy, Matthew, Kenneth, Tamica, Klairisie, Tiffiney, Doug, Ryan, Casey, Jaclyn; several great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her son, Brett Hendrick; son-in-law, Isiah Butler Jr.; siblings:  Maynard, Fred, Pete, Janette, Genevieve, Sylvia, Mary, Margaret.

Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2023 in Novesta Church of Christ with Brad Speirs officiating.  Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
