John Francis "Jack" Generous

September 11, 1940 — August 31, 2020

JOHN FRANCIS “JACK” GENEROUS,
79, of Gagetown died following a brief battle with cancer Monday, August 31, 2020 in the comfort of his home. He was born September 11, 1940 in Gagetown to Elger Raymond and Margaret (Johnston) Generous.

Jack attended the former St. Agatha’s Catholic School of Gagetown up to eighth grade. He moved on to Cass City High School and received his diploma in 1959. Jack learned his trade by attending Flint Barber College. He took a six-month course in hair styling in Southfield and ended up staying at the six-chair styling shop for a year. Jack found city life to be too busy and hectic, so he returned to Cass City and completed a two-year apprenticeship with his uncle in Bill Johnson’s Main Street Shop downtown. He eventually opened his own shop named Jack’s Hillside Barber Shop where he cut, trimmed and styled hair for many faithful customers for over fifty years.

Jack was an active member of St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Caro where he sang in the choir and occasionally played the drums. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3224 of Caro. During homecoming parades and festivals, Jack proudly drove his 88 Oldsmobile convertible sedan for the court and princesses. He enjoyed time outdoors feeding the birds and tending to his vegetable garden. Jack was fond of Oldies music, the music of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and his favorite LeAnn Rimes. He was at his happiest in the presence of his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved whole heartedly.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Sue (John Bennett) Generous of Kalkaska; grandchildren: Rachel (Tom Centers) Harris, Ryan Harris, Kayla (Paul) Brown, Keenan (Brooke Reinis) Harris, Ciarrah Smith; great-grandchildren: Harper Rose Brown, Gavin Centers, Emmett Centers.

Respectfully honoring Jack’s final wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends may share memories, prayers and stories with his family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
